Show Love By Planning

Love to me is putting the needs of others ahead of your own. When I am working with clients that are downsizing I remind them that the most important thing to remember is to only keep what is truly loved or important to you.

If you yourself have ever had to sort through the belongings of a loved one who has passed away you know the pain of heart there is trying to decide if an item was a treasured sentimental piece or something they picked up at the local pharmacy because they thought it was cute. Some items are very obviously treasured such as heirlooms, antiques, and many others.

How loving it is though when a parent is able to have the foresight to make these decisions for their loved ones. Most children will only hold on to things because they know that it was loved by their parents even if it is not necessarily loved by them. No one wants to be a burden to someone, so why would we want to burden the next generation with material things that weren’t even that important to us to begin with. The best gift an aging parent can give is to unburden their children with as many decisions as possible during a very stressful and emotional time.
