“Your home is a living space, not a storage space.”- Francine Jay

Imagine how much time you would have if your home was organized. How much time during the day do you spend looking for lost items or trying to keep up with the chaos? Now is the time for a mindset shift. If that quote resonates with you and you are feeling the chaos when you step into your home, you are at the right place.

Where to start?- Start small. Don’t start with sentimental items, or try to organize the entire kitchen. Pick a small space, any space. It can even be a single drawer. Open it up and pull everything out. Ask yourself, what do I want to keep? If it is broken, stained, or worn out, get rid of it. You do not need it. I promise.

How to stay focused- Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed throughout the project, think about the after. Think about your end goal, how the space will look and make you feel. If you are struggling to let things go, think about the people who will benefit from the items you are no longer using. Remember that the item served you well and that you can feel good about letting it go.

Practice makes perfect- It gets easier the more you do it. Living with less can even become addicting. The Kon-Mari method always suggests leaving sentimental items for last. If you are interested in the Marie Kondo way of living follow this order when decluttering your home: clothing, books, papers, miscellaneous, and lastly sentimental.
