Spring Is Here! 7 Steps To Get Your Home Ready
Spring has sprung! The birds are singing the sun is shining! You open the door to your garage to get some fun outdoor gear and…..ughhhhh. What are your emotions when you open your garage? Or if you don’t have a garage, how do you feel when you are in your basement or attic? Are you thinking, get me out of here as quickly as possible?!
Garages and other storage rooms don’t get enough love! Just because they are not spaces we typically entertain our guests in, doesn’t mean that we don’t deserve to feel good when we are in them. You deserve an organized garage that makes you feel good! Here are some of my tips for organizing a garage and keeping it that way!
Clean out every shelf/ closet or anywhere else you are storing items.
Empty every box, bin or bag.
Categorize. Try to think broadly when you categorize, if your kids have tons of sporting equipment then yes by all means categorize based on each individual sport, but if they just have a few different items related to sports just label it sports.
Notice what items you tend to have a lot of and donate or trash!
When putting items back think about the frequency of use and who will be trying to find these items. Example: don’t put kids toys on the highest shelf, put them where they can easily reach.
Put like items near each other.
LABEL!!! This is extra important in garages and other storage rooms. These items may only get used for a season, without a label, you may never find where you put it!
There you have it! Garages can be overwhelming but I promise that if you set up systems for your family’s success you can have and maintain and organized garage!
Here is an example of a shelving unit that I organized in a basement. This family had a very small amount of sporting equipment that I chose to put by the door for easy access for the kids.
